Webmaster's Review: Rustic charm awaits you at this authentic seafood shack situated on deep water with a small marina and outdoor seating on the deck. They have plenty of misting fans outside, but we were seated in the sun about 7:00 pm and it was still quite hot. Good thing the sweet tea was delicious! Unfortunately the hushpuppies we were quickly served weren't my favorite - they were kind of hard and a bit stale. They were overly large too, about 2" in diameter. The remoulade sauce served with them was good though, but couldn't overcome the un-fresh pups. Our food arrived very quickly, about 10 minutes after our order. We shared the fried shrimp, oysters and scallops, and they were lightly breaded and very tasty. Nicely prepared and indeed very fresh, with more emphasis on the food and not so much the breading or fried batter which can be overwhelming. Served with mashed potatoes and broccoli. My potatoes were okay tasting, but half of them were hard and seemed kind of crusty on the outside, like they had been sitting for a while (but they were hot). I ate around that part and tried to overlook it, but my overall experience was rather lackluster. The seafood itself was great, especially the scallops which were probably the best I've ever had. And they were cooked great. But with the lousy hushpuppies and mediocre potatoes (which our server didn't mention and I don't recall seeing it on the menu; in fact we thought we were getting fries.. but oh well), it just didn't hit it out of the ballpark for me.

Bernie's Oyster House
13 Tybrisa Street - (912) 786-5100
Open 7 days a week.
Bernie's offers a delicious selection of sandwiches, soups, and appetizers, as well as an abundance of steamed, raw, and fried food. We feature a variety of seafood prepared many ways. Bernie's is now serving two locations in Savannah: Historic River Street in the downtown area, and beautiful Tybee Island.
Webmaster's Review: Located on the main street of Tybrisa, we ducked into this place after strolling around the downtown area and working up an appetite. We were seated outside in a cozy outoor patio, with good shade and a small stage where we were treated to live entertainment. We ordered the fried seafood combo of oysters and shrimp, which was served dark and crispy, too heavily-fried for my tastes. What killed the deal for me was not the lackadaisical service, but that the first round of sweet tea was great, but upon tasting my refill I about did a spittake and nearly choked on what tasted to me like pure water straight from the ocean! Everyone took a sip and confirmed the same thing. Apparently they had run out of sugar, borrowed some from their neighbor, and in fact it turned out to be salt instead of sugar! What in the heck? After that, my tastebuds were ruined and nothing tasted right for the rest of the evening. An anomaly perhaps, but on top of the overly-fried food this place just couldn't rise above being merely a bar that also serves seafood.

Webmaster's Review: The coolest place on Tybee for a family experience and a definate must-see when visiting the island. Feed the alligators outside in their small containment pond outside this delightful fisherman's wharf style retreat situated on the marsh. Like a scene from Kurtz's jungle oasis, the atmosphere is romantic and like a throwback to another era, with its huge Southern Oaks draped over an expansive deck outdoor eating area. There is a tiki hut bar central to the space, with lots of fans and a shade canopy to keep things remarkably cool and relaxing. Their specialty is shellfish platters for 1-4 persons to share, and we ordered the combo for 2, which was plenty of food and fed 3 adults easily with a lot leftover for a fourth. It featured crab legs and claws, mussels, peel and eat shrimp, crawfish, sausage, corn on the cob, and red potatoes. Everything was fresh as could be and absolutely delicious. The sweet tea was also superb and service was great as well. And no visit to The Crab Shack would be complete without a souvenir drink served in a carved coconut - only $12 bucks. The family loved this place and I would recommend it for the atmosphere alone, but the food is equally as good as your surroundings.

Cousin Vinnie's Pizza
1616 East Hwy 80 - (912) 786-4444
Webmaster's Review: Are you kidding me? Maybe the best pizza I've ever had. Really. They say it's "New Jersey Style" - and it's awesome. I'm not sure what that means, but the crust was a little thicker than New York style but still on the thin-medium side. Just right actually. They sell by the slice for lunch, and I had 2 slices of cheese and a Coke. $1.95 a slice. The crust was perfectly baked, and you could taste the butter on the edge. Minimal tomato sauce, which is just how it ought to be, but lots of cheese. Good, quality cheese. And the slices were huge. I shared with my daughter and we could hardly finish it all. The atmosphere is pure pizza joint at the beach circa 1984, with classic video games and cozy wood tables and paneling that make me feel like I'm 13 again. I love everything about this place! Especially the pizza.

Built in 1910 as a family beach house it was renovated in 1998 opened for business in May 1989 and is now one of the best restaurants and inns on the Georgia coast. Hunter House chef and part owner Espy Geissler grew up locally and has an amazing talent for creating gourmet meals with southern flair. Different specials are prepared each night featuring fresh seafood and excellent meats. The appetizers range from a rich seafood bisque to a bowl of Cuban black bean soup. While the meals of local black grouper, Atlantic salmon or yellow fin tuna are delicious, the "pot roast dinner" continues to be a favorite year after year.

Webmaster's Review: Even when you've just strolled in from the beach and have worked up a hearty appetite, this place struggles to be just average. Hot dog and fries were served mildly warm and pretty bland to taste. Burgers are large but nothing special either. Kind of expensive for what it is, which is basically a beach burger joint.

Webmaster's Review: Seafood done right, with perfectly fried shrimp, oysters and crinkle fries, and damn good hushpuppies. Lively outdoor entertainment makes it a fun place to be, and it's always crowded but the wait is never long. Reasonably priced, simple but delicious seafood - this place is probably my favorite place to eat on Tybee, next to the Sundae Cafe.

Sundae Cafe & Deli
East Hwy 80 - (912) 786-7694
Open Mon - Sat 11am -10pm
Webmaster's Review: The best place to eat on Tybee. Period. Ranks right up there with other fine eateries you'll find in Savannah or pretty much anywhere for that matter. Unassuming from the outside, situated within a small strip mall, Sundae Cafe is a small restaurant that is owned and operated by local Tybee chefs done good. We had the scallops on tortillas for an appetizer, and it was perfectly cooked and tasted out of this world - like nothing I've had before. For an entree, we split the surf and turf, which consisted of a large and delicious filet mignon and four jumbo shrimp stuffed with crab meat. They were fantastic. Even the bread and butter is scrumpcious! And for toppers, this place was no more expensive than any other place we ate on the island, maybe even a little cheaper. Reservations are recommended, as the word is out.
